Myron’s Place (2/F Greenbelt 5)

21 May 2008 6 Comments
Last Saturday evening, I treated my old buddies Wilson and Joel to dinner at Myron's Place in Greenbelt for dinner. We caught up with lots of stuff about life and work. It's always nice to enjoy a meal with pleasant company This post is about my thoughts on the resto and the food we had.

Setting. Cozy interiors, high ceiling and subdued lighting. Has a garden veranda dining area as well, but we chose to dine at the comfy sofa-like chairs indoors. The place has sections perfect for 1 on 1s as well as for group dinners. It has its own washroom too Now for the food. Starters (Complimentary) Honey Bread with Whipped Butter. Not bad. Risotto Balls with Chorizo. How can I describe what I felt after my first bite? Hm. Not impressed? Disappointed? Not really.. but I was expecting a lot more. I was expecting to be blown away. I wasn't. The balls had a faintly rancid taste that I'm not used to. Perhaps that's the way arborio rice tastes without the usual creamy risotto base, I don't know.. just didn't like it as much as other bloggers who have raved about it. Baked Oysters with Foie Gras. Creamy and flavorful. I had 3 of these as Joel was not impressed so he only had 1. He says he couldn't taste the oysters. I didn't care. Masarap ang foie gras. Hahaha

Drink Red Grape Shake. Nothing special about it, as with most other grape shakes I've tried recently. Just lotsa ice (and *gasp* is that sugar I'm tasting?)

Main Courses Black Cod with Prawn and Mashed Potatoes. The fish was firm and flaked easily with a fork. Didn't have the strong and pungent fishy taste at all. Quite pricey at around P800+ Black & Blue Burger. Featuring Wagyu beef (which can't be seen in this pic hehe). The Wagyu beef tasted buttery and had a gooey texture (in a nice way). I'd say Wagyu beef is not all that (even though there's a lot of buzz going around about it), but it still tastes good nonetheless. This dish did not elicit the same kind of unforgettable fuzzy feeling I had upon first tasting Kobe beef in Sannomiya around 7 years ago now. Franco Cut (Grilled US Certified Angus Rib Eye of Beef). The beef was quite a delight, and didn't taste like your run-off-the-mill A1 steak sauce. I'd expect dishes like this (as like Gaudi's house specialty) to unleash my inner carnivore (rar!), but it did no such thing — the experience was more of subtle enjoyment instead of pig-out indulgence. Hehe. Dessert Banana Cream Pie. The non-event of the night. I had high expectations of this after reading a positive online review, but we were disappointed. It was caramelized banana slices on top of a custardy pastry cream and a bottom crust that crumbles with the touch of a fork. The taste was ho-hum ordinary at best. Definitely not a good dessert moment for me. Service was good, the wait staff were courteous, articulate, and attentive. Our server was helpful in recommending which items we should order, and offered to have our Wagyu burger sliced into 3 upon learning that we were sharing. We sat around and chatted for about an hour more after we've done with all the eating, but the staff didn't treat us like illegal squatters (this was the feeling I got from a recent resto I went to, won't mention which one hehe). << Wilson reserved our comfy seats seats >> Price: a bit on the high end. Expect to spend more than P1500 per head to be able to have a full course. If you're on a scrimp, just order one of their pastas. Then again, you shouldn't be coming to Myron's just for their pasta anyhow. My verdict: I came in expecting to have a knock-your-socks-off dining experience, but left slightly short of that. It was okay, but not stellar as the other bloggers have put it. Lesson in point — trust your own palate and don't just go with what you read online. Dining, like music appreciation, is a subjective experience. I liked the oysters, the ambiance and interiors, and all the other dishes in general were okay (with the exception of the banana cream pie — do not order haha).

Thanks for the review. I thought it was nice to see a contrasting view from this one.

Joel looks very familiar. If I’m right, he might be the same guy I went to school with (college).
