Angels’ Kitchen (Connecticut St., Greenhills)
We had brunch last Saturday at this small homey resto called Angels’ Kitchen in Connecticut street, Greenhills.
I heard from Charlie that the place is owned by parents of ICA students. It was obvious that the customer base is primarily the same bunch as those I almost regularly see at the Podium, Shangri-La Plaza, and Serendra.
The setting was simple and cozy, with no frills and not overly-decorated, ideal for a nice little meal with friends.
Food: Here’s what we had.
Appetizer: Soft Shell Crab Salad with Mango Poppyseed Dressing.

The soft shell crab was crisp and tasty, and went very well with the mesclun leaves and cucumber strips. I also liked the fruity mango poppyseed dressing.

We were also given a complimentary small bowl of toasted bread. Not bad, but I would have preferred something fresh.

Drink: AK Special Blend Iced Tea. Not bad for 88 pesos.

Main Courses:
Charlie ordered Original Pinakbet Rice with Lechon Kawali and Chocolate Bagoong (signature dish). I had a nibble and it tasted like pinakbet mixed with plump (almost Japanese-like) rice. Note though that this is a very big serving — good enough for 2.

I ordered the Crispy Steamed John Dory Fish Fillet with Asparagus, Leeks, and Shiitake Mushrooms.

The dish comes with a bowl of white rice. It’s not indicated on the menu, but I’m glad the rice was served since the fish’s oriental flavor is best complemented this way.

Dessert: We had room for dessert — Chocnut Capuccino (Espresso Coffee-flavored with Kahlua liqueur and cream in chocnut candy crust). It was just okay, not too sweet. I couldn’t really taste the “chocnut-ness” of the crust though, it was more like chocolate grahams to me.

As I was feeling a bit drowsy, I had a cup of black coffee to go along with dessert. I liked their blend — it has the right mix of bitter/sourness for me. Plus it comes with a cookie ![]()

Service. The waitress who served us had a smile on, and had politely suggested items on the menu. There was a brief moment while I was snapping food pics that she stood nearby and looked like she was observing what I was doing (I though she’d tell me taking pics was not allowed haha), but other than that I’d say the service was just okay.
Price was a bit on the high end for the food quality, at along the same price range as In-Yo, Florabel, and other more known establishments.

My verdict: While Angels’ Kitchen is not a must-go, must-try place in my book, it offers enough uniqueness, delectation, and that comfort-food feel most other restos miss. Definitely holds a candle against all the other chain establishments in the Greenhills area. ![]()

Whenever I’m in Cebu, Shangri-la Mactan’s Tea of Spring is an absolute must-visit. This is not like your everyday Chinese restaurant, what with the creative twists it introduces to the cuisine.
