Mezzaluna (G/F Serendra)

I’ve been raring to try out the Italian resto Mezzaluna from the first time I saw the place in Serendra Piazza months ago, and last week we were finally able to do just that.

Here’s the food we had and what I thought of the place.

Setting: Chic, contemporary European decor and cozy furniture make you feel right at ease when dining here. A large floor-to-ceiling board on the wall lists the chef’s specials. Lively chatter and soft music blend in the background.

As with all other fine-dining establishments, our food started with complimentary freshly-baked bread.

We started our meal with an order of Four Cheese Pizza.


Much as I’m not a pizza fan, I’d say this one was really good. The crust was quite thin, so you can eat the slice folded up. Tasted really well with a little chili oil.


Of course, I have to get my risotto fix whenever I’m on an Italian place. The Mushroom and Foie Gras Risotto was one of the night’s highlights for me. It was an absolute stunner — a fusion of flavors so rich you’d keep coming back for more. We ordered two plates of this.


My standard drink — Grape Shake — this one used naturally sweet red grapes and is perhaps one of the best-tasting ones in my grape shake quest thus far.

Another highlight of the night — the Peppered Tuna. I love pepper and I use it with most of the Western dishes I eat, but this fish entrée has brought my pepper appreciation to new heights. The fish was very fresh, soft, and was definitely a good gastronomic experience you’d have to try for yourself.


This was a wrong dish they brought out — we ordered the sausage platter appetizer, but they served us these chorizos. We didn’t ask them to be replaced anymore, seeing that they looked good anyway. Not bad for a wrong order, hehe.


At first, we were having second thoughts about ordering the Five-Pepper Steak, given that we already have another pepper dish. This steak, served medium, had just the right level of tenderness and average thickness.


The Roasted Cornish Game Hen is perhaps the most common/un-special dish we ordered. It was well-cooked and had relatively more flavor than your run-of-the-mill roasted chicken, but I wished we had ordered something else instead. In my experience, seems like chicken (given its natural blandness in taste) is not such a good gourmet choice as compared to beef or fish.


Sadly, I was not very satisfied with the service we got from the attendants. They did cover all the basics — plate changes, water refills, and even a second helping of the complimentary bread — but they did all these in a certain impersonal, insipid stance. The price range of less than P1K — about P800 per head for a full course meal excluding dessert (as we went to a different place) — was competitive and very reasonable for the quality of food and the nice ambiance, but I probably expected better service from a Serendra establishment at these prices.

Overall verdict. With a reasonable price point and pleasant interiors, Mezzaluna should be worth the visit for its innovative culinary masterpieces despite the relative service letdown.

    hey, had a good dinner at galileo enoteca… somewhere in mandaluyong… really good, they serve italian food and its not expensive, try it but better go with you special someone!!! :D hahaha
