morsels 01.19.09 – recently popular
There doesn’t seem to be any new good movies on the horizon (the worthy ones seem to be at least several weeks away), so I think I’m gonna be stuck with my books for a while. Not that I’m complaining — in fact I’m enjoying it a lot. I must have already hit my annual quota of book purchases with my last trip to Fully Booked and A Different Bookstore this past weekend. Will update my Books sidebar as I go.

Here are the entries which are getting the most number of hits in the site lately:
* Quotes from Benjamin Button
* Best Restaurants in Manila and the Philippines
* Antonio’s Tagaytay
* Return to KAI (Greenbelt 5) – review shoot for QTV11’s The Beat
* Pepper Lunch (Power Plant, Rockwell Center)

In the (loose) tradition of my lengthy on recent fads post last year, I noticed a couple of currently popular stuff that are catching my attention and interest these days:
* Sanük sandals — they look comfortable and chic, but I wonder if they can be as versatile as Crocs?
* 8 megapixel camphones — saw a gallery of shots taken with a Sony Ericsson phone and was stunned!
* mountain bikes at R.O.X. Bonifacio High Street — wish I had more time to explore cycling.. the bikes look really exciting!
..as well as some that I’d be more than glad to brush aside:
* Wendy’s Baconator burger — what a waste of calories. I saw their magazine ads and read a couple of food bloggers write about this — no, thanks.
* Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series — which are now in stock at most bookstores, after being temporarily extinct throughout the December holidays. Yeah, the movie was OK; but I don’t think I’ll have the time and the interest to read the books (Vince wants to read them though, hehe)
* The whole head shaving thing — yeah I did it last December and thought it was cool and all, but I lost all interest in keeping it shaved now that the style seems to be so trite and ubiquitous here in the office.
Fortunately, my hair grows back fast (even though it doesn’t thicken as much as I want it to, hehe)

I found out today that my Candy’s former assistant — Janelle Palma — is back in IBM and working under Vira’s team. Welcome back Janelle!

Lastly, do check out the revamped website of my home church — CCF. I love the new layout and all, but more importantly, the content is priceless. The site’s new features are listed here.

*Movies: I liked YES MAN hahahaha! It made me laugh as much as White Chicks did!
*Twilight: The book’s definitely better than the movie. The movie was a letdown actually, compared to the book.

Desserts and more at Café Sabel (BenCab Museum, Baguio)

Mario’s Restaurant (Baguio)
Despite having a branch in Manila, Mario's Restaurant Baguio still commanded our time and attention during our recent trip up north. Setting. The place looked and felt like a comfortable lounge with eclectic interiors. The lighting was dim-to-warm, getting the natural ...
Forest House Bistro & Cafe (Baguio)
Third in our continuing series featuring Baguio is the cozy Forest House Bistro & Cafe along Loakan Road. Setting. The place looks and feels like a homey log cabin with crisp fresh air, woodsy interiors, and live music. A live (and very ...
Breakfast at Café by the Ruins (Baguio)
Our next restaurant stop in Baguio is what is probably its most unique. Café by the Ruins' distinctive name is matched by a quirky-artistic vibe and a delicious menu featuring locally-grown ingredients. Setting. Built upon the war 'ruins' of a former ...
Le Chef at the Manor (Camp John Hay, Baguio)
We were fortunate enough to have been able to experience the best of Baguio City right before the recent typhoon onslaughts. I hope this series of Baguio restaurant reviews somehow help the city's economy and tourism recover faster. Under the helm ...

Wagyu Stone Grill is one of the newest restaurants in the Eastwood Mall Veranda. I’ve always wanted to give House of Wagyu (Podium) a try but for one reason or another kept procrastinating, so I was glad this sub-branch opened right across the condo. One Friday evening, my foodie pals and…
