The Best of Binondo, part 3

24 February 2009 No Comment

Wai Ying (810 Benavidez St. Binondo Manila) is the perennial Chinatown favorite when it comes to authentic Hong Kong style dimsum.

While I think there are definitely other arguable better dimsum establishments elsewhere (Gloria Maris and Xin Tian Di, for instance), Wai Ying has earned its spot as a deserving constant to Binondo-dwellers’ dimsum staple.

The Wai Ying pork siomai used to be much plumper — but still a good value.

A couple of people at home love the fried radish cake, which we dip on hoisin sauce.

Hakaw (shrimp dumplings)

Ham Soi Kok (also Ham Soi Gok) are crescent-shaped deep fried rice flour dumplings with a pork and vegetable
stuffing. The dumpling wrapper is
chewy, sticky, and a little sweet. Really good.

My childhood favorite — Shrimp Cheung Fan (rice rolls/sheets with shrimp filling in light soy sauce).
