22 Prime (22/F Discovery Suites Ortigas)
On a recent weekend, we went for lunch at 22 Prime — the buzzworthy steak restaurant of Discovery Suites in Ortigas. Having heard a lot about the place, we dined with great expectations and were not disappointed.
Setting. Set at the 22nd floor of the hotel, 22 Prime affords diners seated by the window a picturesque panoramic view of Ortigas Center, from SM Megamall through to the Wack Wack golf course. The restaurant’s interiors were quite shabby and somewhat dated (the upholstery on my seat was a bit dusty, and the table trimmings felt ‘old’), but does not entirely take away from its charm.

Caesar Salad 22 Prime (P240) with deep-fried cheese dumplings
Soup du Jour – Pumpkin Cream (P140) with a dash of pepper

Creamy goodness!
The Grilled Jumbo Prawns (P695) weren’t quite as ‘jumbo’ as I’d expect, but were grilled to perfection.
Our real main event was the Rib Eye Steak (P1295), cooked medium rare as I like it, with three peppercorn sauce. The steak was succulent and juicy — every bite was just so wickedly good. Mmmm!
On the side, we had Grilled Zucchini (P90)..
..and Potato Gratin (P140)
A Chocolate Marquise (P195) served as our sweet ending for this good meal.
Service was just alright, and not a particular highlight for a celebrated restaurant like this. We were mostly left to ourselves, and it was a little hard to call the servers’ attention at times. Their knowledge of the menu was fairly decent, although there doesn’t seem to be much enthusiasm with the way they attended to us. Still, at about P1200 per head, the price point of this meal easily trumps other equivalent establishments serving steaks this good.
Overall verdict. I can’t I wholeheartedly agree that 22 Prime is the best steak restaurant in town, even though the steak we had was surely among the best. Not-so-good aspects about its ambiance and service discredit it from being on top. That being said, however, the incredible price point makes it worth a visit. I certainly wouldn’t mind coming back — just not as enthusiastically.

I was a former On-Job-Trainee of Discovery Suites so I have tried loads of goody foods inside the kitchen. Quiet lang. SSsssshhhhh…..
I wonder who was your food server that day. hahaha I might know him/her.
I’m planning to eat a steak soon. Hope I could drop by 22 Prime dine and say hi to the kitchen crew.
