Kabisera ng Dencio’s (Bonifacio High Street)

18 August 2009 2 Comments

Dining out with family is always a happy occasion for me, especially if the food is good. A while back, we feasted at the popular premium-tier branch of Dencio’s, aptly named Kabisera ng Dencio’s, presumably as it is on the farthest end of Bonifacio High Street and that it seems to be their flagship outlet.

Setting. Like a modern Filipino place, Kabisera’s interiors incorporates native decor into a contemporary ambiance. A high ceiling and loft level provides ample space for diners. As with other Dencio’s establishments, Kabisera is an ideal choice for big groups.

Krispy Kangkong (P170) to start us up. I loved how crisp they are, and didn’t taste as greasy as I thought.

A refreshing glass of Buko Lychee shake (P120)

Laing ni Tiya Cely (P130). This version avoids too much coconut milk, which worked well with some. I personally would have preferred otherwise.

A cup of Bagoong Rice (P50)

The house specialty, Rodrigo’s Roast (P455) — 3 rolled-up roast pork liempo strips cooked in a sweet adobo sauce — was a big hit with us, children included. The meat was very tender, and the sauce is irresistible with rice. A must-order!

Sari-saring Sinugba (P510) is a platter of grilled goodies — chicken, pork, squid, fish — perfect for big groups.

Pancit Dencio’s (P220), as requested by my mom :)

Perhaps the meal’s letdown for me was the Prawns Dino (P425). Cooked with mashed salted egg, the prawns seem a little too dry and salty.

When dining at Dencio’s, how can anyone pass up on the Krispy Pata (P470)? A solid specialty dish done really well: meat is easy to the bite and not too tough; skin is crisp as a cracker.

Crab Rice (P55) on the side

Desserts were equally fantastic. Editha’s Way (P160) — a unique take on Brazo de Mercedes with cheesecake, creamy custard, and sugar crystals.

I love turon, and Kabisera’s aptly named Sin-Turon (P120) successfully modernizes it. Wrapped pinsec-style and served with chocolate ice cream, this dessert is truly sinful.

Service was good. With the exception of one or two occasions where we had to actively call for their attention, the wait staff was generally fast and efficient, and we were comfortably served right away. Their recommendations were mostly spot on. Price ~P600 per head.

Overall verdict. Kabisera serves Filipino food done the right way, retaining as much of the traditional flavors while modernizes the treatment and not overdoing it. If you’re looking for a comfortable place to have a good meal with family or a group of friends, look no further.

we ate here a couple of months ago but found nothing special with it… parang standard Dencio’s or Gerry’s fare lang. I prefer Sentro or Bistro Filipino
