Burgoo (2/F SM Mall of Asia, Pasay)
Burgoo has been a long-time favorite of mine, but I haven’t had the chance to visit it for more than a year now. Recently, after aimlessly gallivanting at the Mall of Asia, we treated ourselves to a hearty, thousand-calorie dinner here.

Started off with the Supreme Sampler (P395 – regular) appetizer platter, which has the bestselling buffalo wings, Sta. Fe spring rolls, chimichanga, and onion rings

My Kiwi Cooler (P145) was refreshing and light

A plate of Cheddar Fries (P145) always gets us started right

The main event — a small order of the Shrimp and Ribs platter (P595), with a half slab of charbroiled Oklahoma-style pork ribs, sausage slices, sweet corn, tasty fried shrimps, and french fries. A complete and very satisfying meal.

The Chicken Teriyaki Noodles (P275) is a new item on the menu, with deep fried chicken strips and oriental style pasta. The teriyaki sauce is served on the side (not pictured).

Grilled Pork Chops (P295) — two thick grilled herb-seasoned pork chops with gravy, corn on the cob, and rice pilaf

Desserts were just as eventful with the creamy-sweet Oreo Cake (P175)..

..and the classic fave Mud Pie (P155).
Setting. American themed casual-dining bistro, great for groups and families.
Service. Pretty standard; we needed to call the servers’ attention a couple of times. Not particularly as memorable as those in comparable establishments, but nothing major to complain about.
Price range: ~P500-700 per head will go a long way
Overall verdict. Burgoo, like T.G.I. Fridays and Outback Steakhouse, is a bistro chain, and thus should be reviewed and enjoyed as such. With good food, big servings, and a casual, laid-back ambiance, Burgoo remains on my favorites list.

Mario’s Restaurant (Baguio)
Despite having a branch in Manila, Mario's Restaurant Baguio still commanded our time and attention during our recent trip up north. Setting. The place looked and felt like a comfortable lounge with eclectic interiors. The lighting was dim-to-warm, getting the natural ...

Breakfast at Café by the Ruins (Baguio)
Our next restaurant stop in Baguio is what is probably its most unique. Café by the Ruins' distinctive name is matched by a quirky-artistic vibe and a delicious menu featuring locally-grown ingredients. Setting. Built upon the war 'ruins' of a former ...
Le Chef at the Manor (Camp John Hay, Baguio)
We were fortunate enough to have been able to experience the best of Baguio City right before the recent typhoon onslaughts. I hope this series of Baguio restaurant reviews somehow help the city's economy and tourism recover faster. Under the helm ...

Dining out with family is always a happy occasion for me, especially if the food is good. A while back, we feasted at the popular premium-tier branch of Dencio’s, aptly named Kabisera ng Dencio’s, presumably as it is on the farthest end of Bonifacio High Street and that it seems…

Recently, an occasion allowed me to revisit the place for dinner, and consequently reassess my overall verdict of the place.
