Uncle Cheffy Brick-Oven BBQ (2/F Eastwood Mall Veranda)
I have such a huge backlog of restaurants to feature and as such am only getting to write about this place more than a month after we dined in. Uncle Cheffy Brick-Oven BBQ serves dishes cooked on a brick oven: barbecue, lechon (roast suckling pig), panizza, steak, list goes on. Here’s what I thought of our major pig-out session.
Setting. From the same people behind Chef’s Quarter and Old Vine Grille, Uncle Cheffy has a comfortably laid back ambiance that makes it perfect for dining in groups. The interiors are simple and unpretentious, with a lot of wooden accents and make-shift brick walls.

Wine bottles are displayed on the brick wall shelf

This wooden accent wall caught my attention

For starters, we had a platter of Grilled Oysters (P295).

While the oysters were succulent, I found their sizes to be quite small. They made up for it with quantity though.

We ordered two panizzas: (1) Uncle Cheffy Fav. Panizza (P395)

and (2) East Meets West Panizza (P495).

A panizza, in case you don’t already know, is thin-crusted pizza that’s sliced and eaten in a roll with arugula, alfalfa, and diced tomatoes.

We debated which one of the 2 panizza orders we liked better. I can’t seem to recall what my preference was; but suffice it to say that I became a fan. Not a big pizza-eater, but this one’s really delicious. The hot melted cheese that fuses between the crust and the rolled vegetables just makes a divinely pleasurable explosion of flavors on your mouth, making it water for more.

My drink was the Four Season Shake (P120), a cool blend of fresh fruits.

The Calamares Sambal (P350) had a mild kick to its sweetness, perfectly glazing the crisp squid rings.

Pasta Alejandro (P350), a tomato-based pasta dish that I found to go so well with the calamares dish above (yes I ate them together
).

The Pork Lechon (P285 for 300g) was a surprise.

The skin was crisp as should be, but the meat was tastier than the average lechon I’ve had.

Served with liver sauce and tomato salsa

I found the Mushroom Rice Pilaf (P295) a tad too dry and quite unmemorable..

..as did the Grilled Blue Marlin (P395).

As if we haven’t had enough — we couldn’t forgo the opportunity to try out their house specialty, the Cheffy Steak (P1950 for 800g).

The smoky, juicy beef was basted with melted butter, doubling our chances to get heart disease from this dish.

For desserts, we had Ube Panacotta (P110), which was just alright..

..these crepe-like rolls — forgot the name (P95), and..

..the oven-baked Chocolate Roulade (P135), a rich, creamy mousse layered with mango-flavored yogurt.
Service was good, and definitely at par with the standards of its older and more formal sibling establishments. Price. You’ll be ridiculously full and well-fed with just approximately P800-P1000.
Overall verdict. Uncle Cheffy is definitely a welcome addition to the growing selection of dining choices in Eastwood. Its combination of no-frills good food and reasonable pricing in a casual ambiance makes it an ideal hangout for team lunches and family dinners. Recommended.

In the panizza, those aren’t arugula, are they? They look like romaine lettuce to me. I rarely go to Eastwood Mall and I only get to know most of the restaurants there thru your blog. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully, I can get to visit Eastwood Mall soon.
